Position Summary
Imperial Construction is seeking an Estimator that will play a key role in setting projects up for success at Imperial Construction. This position is responsible for developing accurate, detailed cost estimates that help guide project planning, protect profitability, and support strong client relationships.
You’ll work closely with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to build competitive, well-informed bids. This role requires both attention to detail and practical construction knowledge—understanding how projects are actually built, not just how they look on paper.

Preconstruction & Estimating
- Review plans, specifications, and addenda to fully understand project scope
- Prepare detailed takeoffs and develop accurate cost estimates
- Build and maintain bid spreadsheets and scope breakdowns
- Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and potential risk areas
- Develop bid packages and solicit subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Build and maintain relationships with qualified subcontractors
- Level and analyze bids to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Negotiate scope gaps with subcontractor for preparation of project handoff
- Develop project budgets and cost projections
- Maintain and update cost databases, pricing, and historical data
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options
- Resolve discrepancies in pricing through research and analysis
- Manage the full bid process from initial review through final submission
- Distribute plans and specifications to subcontractors and plan rooms
- Attend pre-bid meetings and support project-specific coordination
- Ensure bids are completed accurately and submitted on time
- Work closely with project managers, operations teams, and leadership
- Maintain professional relationships with owners, architects, and partners
- Provide clear handoff information to operations after award
- Contribute to team efforts and support overall company goals
Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 3+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and subcontractor trades
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong takeoff and cost analysis capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
- Experience with estimating software is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines
- Effective communication and negotiation skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work
- Estimates are accurate, complete, and delivered on time
- Budgets align with actual project costs and support profitability
- Subcontractor coverage is strong, with well-qualified trade partners
- Scope gaps and risks are identified early and addressed proactively
- Project teams receive clear, thorough handoffs that set them up for success
